The idea of documenting all the dew ponds on the south downs has been an idea rattling around in the back of my head for a few years now. The inspiration for this came along whilst photographing for my project titled ‘Spirit of the Downs’ where I photographed some dew ponds on my many walks. There is something quite magical about dew ponds, they portray a natural existence but are totally man made features of the landscape. For this reason I can’t help but be drawn to them and here is the first of many more to come….

Last month I visited Simon Cook & Peter Knight at Keele University to move forward with our collaborative piece of work on Glaciers and the glacial landscape.
The images below were shot in Keeles cold lab, they are closeups of ice and show the structure and patterns hidden within it’s layers. The top two images are shot through polarising lenses, the lenses shift the direction of light passed through to the camera, this enable you to see the colours and structure more clearly.

Also in the summer last year I joined a group of Glaciologists from the UK who were on a trip to Switzerland to study the Feegletscher glacier, Saas Fee. I gave myself an open brief as to what I was going to do when I arrived, but I soon became interested in the structure and surface of the glacier as I didn’t want to take the archetypal shot. The images you see below are the beggings of a much larger project, so watch this space for more information…
